Hector Bizerk @ The Arches

Glasgow Hip-Hop duo Hector Bizerk played The Arches in Glasgow on 13th February 2012 supporting The GZA of Wutang Clan. I went along and spent some time with them before, during and after what was an incredible show.

Get involved with Hector Bizerk over on their Facebook.

The Twilight Sad @ The Grand Ole Opry

With the release of their fantastic new album (which you can buy here), The Twilight Sad are touring the country to make a mockery of ears throughout the land. As bands go, these guys are LOUD, and incredibly intense. This was a great show, in a venue I’d only visited once previously and had never shot at. Crammed up against a speaker I was so glad of the faithful earplugs that meant I didn’t leave in a tinnitus induced sweaty heap.

Lots of coloured strobes made this a pretty difficult one to photograph, but it’d be no fun if it was easy would it?!

One of my favourite live bands and a great show with the new material sounding fantastic, the new album is definitely worth your time and money!

On a side note, I’ve just read today that Glasgow based band Paws have signed to Fat Cat, the same label as The Twilight Sad. Many congratulations to the guys in Paws, they’re a great band that I’ve really enjoyed the few times I’ve seen and really lovely guys one time I nearly photographed them, but that’s another story. Well done guys, delighted to hear the news!

This show was photographed for The Skinny, you can read the original review with photographs here

Mechanical Smile

A couple of weeks ago I met up with the fine ladies and gents of Mechanical Smile. Hailing from the sunny climes of Kilmarnock, they have been getting some good press in the lead up to the launch of their new EP on 30th March.

Naturals in front of the camera, despite their protestations at being un-photogenic, it was good fun traipsing around Glasgow to a few different locations.

Be sure to check out the band and if you’re in a band in need of fresh images, get in touch for a quote.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs @ King Tuts

Let’s just go with TEED, or I’ll never finish this. I noticed these guys on the Tuts advance listings, purely because of the name. My mate Jonny then brought them up and said they/he was pretty awesome live. So my curiosity was definitely peaked before the show.

Not generally the kind of music I listen to but it was a pretty fun show and the crowd were lapping it up. Photographically speaking it was a bit of a nightmare, there was tonnes of crowd facing light, but barely anything on him, meaning lots of faces lost in the darkness.

Explosion In The Sky @ O2 Academy

6.55pm text message asking me to cover this, with doors opening at 7pm. I love these guys though, and they certainly beat Top Gear repeats on Dave. Stunning show as ever and despite their epic song lengths, they still went for the standard 3 songs in the pit, which was nice!

Review and some more shots of the show are over here.

This is a long one, but worth it, such a beautiful piece of music…

Weddings

The majority of the work I post on here is music related, because, well, just because I love music, and do an awful lot of work with musical artists. Something I don’t post quite as much about, is the wedding photography I do. Something that I love just as much, the hectic, sometimes stressful but always eventually amazing days that I have photographing weddings.

I made a little slideshow with some shots of a few weddings I photographed last year as I start to get myself geared up for starting another year.

If you’re planning a wedding, or know somebody who is, have a look and get in touch.

Admiral Fallow @ ABC

While this was officially a Celtic Connections show, it was all about Admiral Fallow. Having first seen the band as Brother Louis Collective, seen them play in toilets and photographed them on rooftops, it was an amazing moment to see so many people packed in to the venue to see the band.

Their debut Boots Met My Face has been one of my most played albums since its release and I’m pretty excited to hear the new record, especially after hearing some of the album played live.

I was lucky enough to be in some nice spots for photographs the day of the show.

Big congrats to everyone in Camp AF! Can’t wait for Barrowlands.

Becky White PR – SS Lookbook

Early in January I spent the day locked up in a Glasgow office block with a great team of people to shoot the Spring Summer look book for Becky White PR. Becky works with some great clients so we had loads to work with, as well as the beautiful Morven Smith modelling for us.

All of the shots here were included in the final look book, which I got my hands on yesterday.

Check out the rest of the shots below, a behind the scenes video and a list of all of the suppliers featured in the shots.

The supreme talent of Tom Duncan was there on the day making a behind the scenes video which you can watch below. Check him out for any video work that you need done, great guy and a pleasure to work with!

Huge thanks to everyone involved in the shoot for making it such fun!

M83 @ The Arches

I had been pretty excited about this M83 show for a while (since it was announced really). I’d never seen the band live before and have only in the past couple of years become a big fan. Certainly didn’t disappoint with a great (if a little short due to technical difficulties at the start) set and huge sound. You can read a review with a few more of my shots here.

Porcelain Raft were supporting and were pretty impressive. Big and bass heavy with some lovely melodies. Definitely ones to check out!

The first M83 track I heard, and still one of my favourites…

Phantomime @ Stereo

Just before Christmas, The Phantom Band, hosted a two night extravaganza in Glasgow’s Stereo with some great bands, and a dark Christmas panto running throughout. Dark not only in content, but also in the revelation of Ally McCrae’s cross-dressing affliction (see below). Sadly I was only able to make it along to the first night to see Muscles of Joy (more to come about them soon!), Holy Mountain (best live band that unequivocally prove that guitar music is not dead, stupid journos!) and, of course, The Phantoms themselves. Great night that proved a nice change from the host of ‘Christmas Special’ gigs that just featured some tinsel and mistletoe on a drum kit. Well done Phantom Band for keeping things interesting!
